**Senile** is a term used to describe mental changes in older people that may occur due to degenerative processes in the brain or the development of Alzheimer's disease. Translated from Latin, senilis means “senile.”
Senile dementia, as it is also called, is associated with a decline in cognitive function. First of all, memory functions are impaired, and mild retardation may also occur. As well as difficulties due to weakened thinking, difficult thought processes, and even poorly absorbed information. Such changes are irreversible: correction of an irreversible process and complete restoration of brain function is currently impossible.
There are two types of senile dementia. One of them is acquired senile disease. It occurs most often and develops in people over 55 years of age. The second type is age-related dementia. This type appears after 65-70 years.
