Schaudinna mixture is a fixative solution used for fixing and staining cells and tissues in cytology and histology.
Composition of the mixture:
- Ethyl alcohol - 25 ml
- Ether - 8 ml
- Glacial acetic acid - 5 ml
The Schaudinn mixture was developed by the German bacteriologist Fritz Schaudinn at the beginning of the 20th century. It was widely used to fix blood smears in the diagnosis of syphilis using dark-field microscopy.
