The plucking sign (or Hecht's sign) is an acoustic phenomenon that manifests itself in an increase in the intensity of the high-frequency components of the signal spectrum when a person listens to a sound at a distance. This phenomenon was described by American neurologist Albert Hecht in 1953. In clinical practice, pinching is one of the symptoms of lacunar condition, also known as Hecht's syndrome, which is a form of visual impairment caused by damage to the chiasm between the thalamus and the brain. This condition is characterized by deviation of each eye to the side, as well as decreased visual acuity.
