Greater Occipital Nerve Syndrome

Greater occipital nerve syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that causes numbness, tingling, or burning in the back of the head, shoulders, and back with certain postures or neck movements. It occurs as a result of compression of the greater occipital nerve by a tumor or other bone growths. Although there are many different factors that can lead to this syndrome, its development primarily depends on physical activity, concomitant pathology of the cervical spine. The development of the syndrome may be associated with migraine, tension headache, or the benign stage of multiple sclerosis.
