Posterior synechiae in ophthalmology

Dear colleagues and readers! In this article I want to tell you about posterior synechiae - this is a condition of the iris characterized by fusion (adhesions) of three or more of its layers. The main function of the iris is accommodation of the eye, which allows it to be adjusted for clear vision at different focal lengths. Impaired iris function can lead to visual impairment. The appearance of synechiae may be a symptom of eye disease. For example, in the case of posterior scleritis - damage to the inflamed sclera. Posterior iris fusion can also lead to partial or complete blindness, especially if all three iris are fused as a result of the syndrome. Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the disease and is carried out by an ophthalmologist. If the disease proceeds without complications, the disease may be asymptomatic. When a secondary infection occurs, pain in the eye and lacrimation appear. The sooner treatment is started, the greater the chance of avoiding complications. To save your vision and avoid the development of complications, it is important to immediately contact a specialist when you detect the first sign of impaired eye function.
