Sclerosis Vascular

Vascular sclerosis is a chronic disease in which small vessels of the brain are damaged. It is characterized by focal neurological disorders caused by cerebral ischemia.

Causes of the disease:

  1. cerebral atherosclerosis
  2. arterial hypertension
  3. diabetes
  4. smoking

Symptoms:

  1. acutely occurring focal neurological disorders (paresis, paralysis)
  2. speech disorders
  3. dizziness
  4. lack of coordination
  5. memory loss

Diagnosis is based on the clinical picture, MRI and CT scan of the brain.

Treatment is aimed at eliminating vascular risk factors - antihypertensive therapy, hypoglycemic treatment, smoking cessation. Vasodilators and neuroprotective drugs are used. Prevention of recurrent ischemic episodes is important.
