High-speed ski slope and electronic automatic “Start-Finish” system

We have already repeatedly devoted our reviews to all kinds of training devices and educational devices for representatives of winter sports disciplines, in particular skiers. But until now we have only dedicated training equipment for sprinters and biathletes, but haven’t said a word about alpine skiing. The time has come to eliminate this annoying omission...

The system is designed to automatically indicate the time of an athlete's ski descent. Controlled downhill skiing is used by coaches and instructors for the Olympic training of athletes: both individually and in collective classes. This system has proven itself very well for its reliability and measurement accuracy. Special calibration of the device reduces the error to an absolute minimum.

This system is made on the basis of a serial device - frequency meter F-5080, which has a high-precision time counter, automatic indication and reset mode. Therefore, the system can be used for one or several athletes at the same time. In time counting mode, two amplifier boards remain unused, so that “Input I” and “Input II” of the device with a shaper amplifier connected to them can be used to amplify the signals from the starting block and photo finish.

Three operating modes are possible:
  1. single participant, manual control. After the participant finishes the downhill race and his time is recorded, he must press the “reset” signal (Fig. 1, a);
  2. single participant, automatic mode. In the device, the scheme is the same, only the result is reset automatically after the finish of the next participant (Fig. 1, a);
  3. more than one participant on the track, automatic mode (Fig. 150.6). The participant’s result represents the sum of the terms, the values of which are taken from the scoreboard and recorded in the protocol.

In the latter option, there is no need to strictly observe the interval between the starters. The accidental appearance of a ski tourist is also not dangerous - this will not affect the accuracy of the result. Control of the device using circuits is shown in Fig. 1, c, d. The F-5080 device can work with a digital printing device.
