There was a beautiful legend about the origin of pine. A long time ago, when there were no people yet, gods and beautiful nymphs lived on Earth. They did not know what old age, illness and death were. Youth and beauty never left them. The most charming of all was the nymph of the dawn Pitya. The birds enjoyed her singing, and the sun rose higher to admire the beauty of the sweet-voiced nymph. The god of the northern winds, Boreas, learned about the beautiful Pitya and decided to take possession of her. He chased the girl for a long time. It seemed that Boreas was about to overtake her, but good Pan helped Pitya. He hid her in his forest among the fluffy green branches. Borey got angry and began to shake the old trees with the icy wind. Pitya pressed herself tighter to the flexible branches so that Boreas would not notice her. The cold wind made the girl's body stiff, and her tears turned into drops of amber resin. The next morning the nymph turned into a slender, beautiful tree, which began to be called by her name - drinking (in Latin pinus, or pine).
This evergreen tree is treated with special respect in many countries around the world. It personifies eternity, devotion, fertility. The healing properties of pine were also highly valued.
The oldest recipe using pine resin is more than five thousand years old. Young pine shoots were considered an unsurpassed remedy against scurvy, and boiled in honey helped to restore strength and not get sick in the harshest winter. It has been noted that regular intake of pine pollen slows down aging, and the air in a pine forest alleviates the suffering of pulmonary patients and soothes heart pain.
