Mediastinal Pulmonary Fold

The mediastinal-pulmonary folds are two thin folds between the esophagus and trachea. They fill the mediastinum and run parallel to the bronchi. The air that does not enter the lungs spreads through these folds, and they perform the function of expansion. If these folds thicken or are even pinched by the nerves that are located in the esophagus, then a variety of breathing disorders occur with a displacement of the borders of the heart to the right.
