Stabilography: what it is and how it is used in medicine

Stabilography is a method for studying a person’s postural stability, which allows one to measure the pressure created by the feet on the supporting surface and analyze the distribution of body weight.

The term stabilography comes from the Latin word stabilis, meaning steady or motionless, and the Greek grapho, meaning to write or depict. Using stabilography, you can measure the degree of postural stability of the patient, as well as identify imbalances and coordination of movements.

The principle of operation of stabilographic platforms is that they record changes in pressure on the support created by the patient’s feet during his movements. These data are then analyzed using special software, which allows you to assess the degree of postural stability, as well as identify imbalances and coordination of movements.

Stabilography is widely used in medicine to diagnose various diseases associated with impaired balance and coordination of movements, such as Parkinson's disease, Meniere's disease, dysarthria and others. Stabilography can also be used to assess the effectiveness of treatment for these diseases and monitor the dynamics of the disease.

In addition, stabilography can be useful for athletes and coaches, as it allows them to analyze movement technique and identify deficiencies in motor coordination, which can improve training results and reduce the risk of injury.

This method is based on stabilometry - this is a way to measure parameters such as the time interval of touch or changes in posture in general. The direct task of stabilography is to record the parameters of balance (proprioceptive component) and the interaction between muscles (kinetic component), and analyze these data using the proposed methods.
