Steato

Steato is a Greek word that means “to soften, to butter.” In the history of ancient Roman and medieval medicine, steate-based drugs are often used to treat various diseases. In particular, this applies to skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis and seborrhea.

Steates are solid oils. They have been used in pharmacology and cosmetology for more than 2 thousand years. When mixed with water, steates form an emulsion of stearic acid and unsaturated fatty acids.
