Stomach ulcer

A stomach ulcer is a defect (wound) in the lining of the stomach, sometimes located in the lower esophagus or upper part of the duodenum.

Symptoms of a stomach ulcer:

  1. Pain in the epigastrium of an aching or boring nature, occurring 1-2 hours after eating. The pain decreases in a horizontal position.

  2. Heartburn, sour belching.

  3. Decreased appetite, unpleasant taste in the mouth.

  4. In case of bleeding - vomiting blood, which requires urgent medical attention.

Causes of stomach ulcers:

  1. Stress, nervous shock.

  2. Alcohol abuse, smoking, spicy and sour foods.

  3. Helicobacter pylori infection.

Prevention and treatment:

  1. Diet - exclusion of spicy, fried, sour, rough foods. Mainly dairy products, cereals, purees.

  2. Taking medications that create a protective film on the mucous membrane (bismuth tripotassium dicitrate, vikalin).

  3. Antacids to neutralize acid (almagel, phosphalugel).

  4. Antibacterial therapy for H. pylori infection.

  5. Compliance with the work and rest schedule, avoiding stress.
