Streptotrichosis

Streptotrichosis is a skin disease caused by the fungus Streptotrichos. It is a chronic infectious disease that occurs throughout the world, but is more common in tropical and subtropical regions with hot and humid climates.

Symptoms of streptotrichosis appear in the form of round plaques with a diameter of 1-3 cm. The plaques have clear boundaries and are flaky. They are usually localized on open areas of the skin, such as the face, neck, and arms. Itching in the affected areas is not typical.

Infection occurs through contact with soil, plants or animals infected with the fungus. The main risk factor is exposure to a humid and hot climate. Diagnosis is based on the clinical picture and microscopy of skin scrapings.

Treatment includes topical and oral antifungal medications. It is important to maintain skin and clothing hygiene. Full recovery may take several months. The prognosis with adequate treatment is favorable. Complications usually do not develop.

Prevention of streptotrichosis involves practicing good personal hygiene and wearing closed clothing in hot and humid climates. Avoid contact with potentially contaminated objects.
