Subcostal Region [Regio Hypochondriaca, Pna, Bna; Pars lateralis (Regio Hypochondriaca), Jna]

The subcostal region is a paired region located on the anterolateral wall of the abdomen. It is limited:

  1. Above - costal arch or VII rib
  2. Medial - lateral edge of the rectus abdominis muscle
  3. Bottom - a horizontal line drawn through the lowest point of the X edge

The subcostal region is located under the costal arch, hence its name. It is part of the lateral wall of the abdomen. This area contains the liver, gallbladder, right kidney, right adrenal gland, and part of the large and small intestine.
