Sumamed is an antibiotic of the macrolide and azalide group, which is used to treat various infectious diseases caused by bacteria sensitive to it. It is produced in Croatia by the company Pliva and has the international name Azithromycin.
Sumamed is available in various dosage forms, such as 500 mg tablets, 250 mg capsules, 125 mg film-coated tablets, 100 mg/5 ml syrup, 200 mg/5 ml forte syrup and powder for suspension. In addition, there are special forms for children, such as 100 mg/5 ml syrup or powder for suspension, which can be used to treat children from 6 months of age.
Azithromycin is an effective broad-spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat many infectious diseases. It is highly active against many bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Bacteroides fragilis and others.
