Supraarticular tubercle

Supraarticular tubercle - (tuberculum supraglenoidale, pna; tuberositas supraglenoidalis, bna; tuberositas supraarticularis, jna; synonym supraglenoidal tuberosity) - a small rounded elevation located on the scapula above the glenoid cavity. It serves as the attachment point for the long head of the biceps brachii muscle. The supraglenoid tubercle increases the area of articulation of the shoulder joint, strengthening it.

The size and shape of the supraglenoid tubercle varies. Sometimes it is weakly expressed or absent. In some diseases (for example, arthritis), the supraglenoid tubercle may become enlarged.
