Nut-shaped joint

The nut joint or Schatzmann joints are a common lesion of the joints of the lower extremities and are most often associated with chondrocalcinosis due to rheumatoid arthritis. The cause of the lesion is a disorder of calcium metabolism in a chronic disease, leading to the leaching of calcium from bone tissue and its deposition in the articular cartilage in the form of calcifications.
