Cricopharyngeal ligament

The cricopharyngeal ligament (syringapharyngeus, PNA, BNA; lat. lingualia pharyngea, JNA) is an anatomical structure in the structure of the human respiratory tract. This ligament is located at the junction between the pharynx and the posterior wall of the larynx.

The ligament looks like a flat cord about 3 cm in size, which connects to the pharyngeal pad of the neck. This connection opens and closes the gap in the air passage system through the larynx. In addition, this ligament takes part in regulating the level of intrathoracic pressure and maintains air flow in the upper respiratory tract.
