Ultrasound therapy (syn. sonotherapy) is a method of physiotherapeutic treatment based on the use of ultrasonic vibrations.
Ultrasound waves with a frequency of 0.8 to 3.0 MHz have thermal, mechanical and chemical effects on tissue. As ultrasound passes through tissue, it is absorbed and converted into heat, causing the tissue to heat up. This leads to vasodilation, increased blood circulation and metabolic processes.
In addition, microvibrations occurring during the passage of ultrasound have a mechanical effect on tissue. This helps to loosen and resolve scars, soften and relax muscles and ligaments.
Also, under the influence of ultrasound, chemical transformations of certain substances occur in tissues.
Ultrasound therapy is used for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, injuries, inflammatory processes, and peripheral circulation disorders. This method is safe and has no side effects if the procedure is followed.
