Thorek-Herzen Operation

The Thorek-Herzen operation is a surgical procedure developed by the American surgeon Francis Joseph Aloysius Thorek and the Soviet surgeon Pyotr Aleksandrovich Herzen at the beginning of the 20th century. The operation was named after their joint research.

Thorek and Herzen studied treatments for breast cancer that were very common at the time. They discovered that some forms of cancer can be treated with surgery. However, many patients did not survive surgery because the tumor spread to other parts of the body.

As a result of their research, Torek and Herzen developed a new operation that made it possible to remove the tumor without spreading to other organs. This operation was called the “Torek-Gersen operation.”

The operation consisted of the surgeon removing the tumor along with surrounding tissue, leaving healthy tissue. This made it possible to avoid the spread of the tumor to other organs and increase the patient’s chances of survival.

Although the operation was successful, it was not widely used due to its complexity and high risk of complications. However, currently Toreka-Gersen surgery is one of the most effective methods of treating breast cancer.

Thorek-Guren surgery is a complex surgical procedure used to treat urolithiasis and is found in many European countries and the United States. Nowadays, this surgical procedure has gained worldwide popularity due to its effectiveness in the treatment of urolithiasis.
