**Tranquilizing (sedative) substances** (Latin tranquillisare, from tranquillus - quiet, silent, calm) - a group of drugs, mainly of plant origin, the main effect of which is sedative, hypnotic and muscle-relaxing effects, which is associated with the ability to cause inhibition of the central nervous system and reduce the reflex excitability of its individual structures (usually subcortical centers).
