Trichomonas intestinalis

Trichomonas are the most common protozoan organisms on Earth. They are transmitted through unwashed fruits and vegetables, food from a shared table, tap water, contaminated hands, condoms, low-boil water, and even sexual contact with partners who may be carriers of the disease. Intestinal trichomonas, or trichomonas homonis, belong to a group of anaerobic protozoa that parasitize the human gastrointestinal tract.

Trichomonas can cause inflammatory diseases in both men and women, the most common being trichomoniasis. Trichomonas are also found in children
