Tsutsugamush (Japanese: つつがむし, literally: “Japanese beetle”) is a Japanese beetle of the diving beetle family, living in Japan. In appearance it is very similar to a diving beetle.

Body length from 12 to 25 mm. The color varies from dark brown to almost black, with 4 light longitudinal stripes on the elytra. It has 3 pairs of wings: front and rear wings and elytra wings. The front wings are almost transparent, the hind wings are black.

Tsutsugamusa has special swimming organs - swimming blades, which help it float in the water. He can swim both forward and backward. Swimming blades are located on its legs and are part of its body.

This beetle is an important element of Japanese culture and has many legends and myths. It is also used in traditional Japanese medicine and is a popular collectible.
