The word "turpentine" comes from the Greek word scepeidea ("resin"). Currently, “turpentine”, in addition to terentine oil, is called oil from various resins. According to the Institute of World Literature and the Institute of Russian Language of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian word "turpentine" was introduced into use by the scientist Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev: under the influence of the ideas of the Slavophiles, he used the terms "Slavophiles" and "
