Urethrography Retrograde

What is urethrography and why is it needed?

Urethrography is an X-ray examination that allows you to obtain an image of the urethra and prostate, as well as identify possible problems and diseases of these organs. This procedure is often performed in combination with urethroscopy, an examination of the urethra using an endoscope.

There are two types of urethrography: direct and retrograde. Direct urethrography is performed by injecting special solutions through the urethra to make it more transparent to X-rays. Retrograde urethrography is called urethrography, in which contrast is injected into the urethra - a solution that is clearly visible on x-rays. The contrast then moves back, allowing you to better visualize all the details in the urinary canal. Both methods can be used either separately or in combination to obtain a more complete picture of the organs being studied.

The goals of urethrography may vary and depend on the specific situation. The most common purposes are the diagnosis of various urinary diseases

Retrograde urethrography

**Urethra is the urethral anatomy.** It is performed to study the urethral tract in men.

It is necessary for diagnosis, for example: * inflammatory changes * strictures * tumors of the urethra * damage to the ureter and others. Urethrography is also performed for diagnostic purposes.

Urethrography can also be done on women. In particular, it is carried out to determine the length of the fistula. In case of complete obstruction of the rectum, which is often associated with trauma during childbirth and advanced paraproctitis, determine the length of the fistulous tract, which is also called rectal loops. This allows for rectal plastic surgery to ensure that this area functions normally. Urethroscopy is used in emergency surgery, when something urgently needs to be looked at in the rectum in conditions that are difficult for the patient to stand for a long time. Advantages of urethrography * ease of implementation * no need for anesthesia * possibility of repeated use * instant assessment of the result.
