Uridine triphosphate, also known as UTP (urocylamine triphosphate), is a biological compound of the purine nucleoside series, an ether, arising in nature from urinine.
UTP is a striking example of the chemical transformation of nucleotides and does not have any unique biological function, so it can be considered a product of metabolic degradation of DNA-containing microbes, however, for bacteria this formation is a necessary condition for the exchange of energy and the construction of DNA. UTP is also produced by plants and some protozoa as a necessary intermediate for the synthesis of purine bases.
