Hepatitis Vaccine (H-B Vax Ii)

Hepatitis B vaccine (H-B Vax II) is a vaccine for the prevention of hepatitis B. It contains purified hepatitis B virus surface antigen produced by recombinant DNA technology.

The vaccine is produced by Merck Sharp and Dome in the USA and the Netherlands. It is available in the form of a suspension for intramuscular administration in dosages of 5 mcg, 10 mcg and 20 mcg.

H-B Vax II is used for active immunization against infection caused by all known subtypes of the hepatitis B virus in individuals of any age from birth. Vaccination is carried out according to a scheme of three injections. Revaccination is recommended every 5-10 years in individuals at high risk of infection.

The vaccine is well tolerated and has low reactogenicity. In rare cases, local reactions (pain, hyperemia) and general reactions (fever, malaise) are possible. The vaccine is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
