Wendt-Damaged Ear Probe

Early diagnosis of catarrhal and purulent otitis is very important, since its external asymptomatic manifestation may hide pathological changes that lead to complications and have serious consequences: or, even more seriously, meningitis. And for successful treatment, it is important to find out where exactly the infection lies - in the middle ear itself or outside it. The nonevent-harmful test, named after the brothers, but first introduced into practice by Dr. V.F. Pospelov in 1927, will allow you to do this. It is a cotton swab soaked in an alcohol solution of pertulenic acid, which the doctor inserts into the outer ear through its ear canal. If there is dehiscence, then during this method the markers on the skin near the auricle do not appear. In this case, it becomes possible to assume that the pus is simply protruding from the ear itself. And then, in combination with other diagnostic methods, it is possible to prescribe further treatment to reduce inflammation. As an additional method, a no-harm analysis can be used to assess the effectiveness of the treatment prescribed by the doctor: if there is still an accumulation of exudate in the ears, then the therapy was chosen correctly.
