Ventodisc: description, indications, contraindications and side effects

Ventodisk is a bronchodilator containing the active substance - salbutamol. The drug is available in the form of powder for inhalation in doses of 200 mcg and 400 mcg. Ventodisc is manufactured by Glaxo (UK), Glaxo Wellcome (France) and Glaxo Wellcome (UK).

Indications for use

Ventodisk is used for the prevention and relief of bronchospasm in bronchial asthma, the symptomatic treatment of broncho-obstructive syndrome (chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, etc.), nocturnal asthma (long-acting tablet forms) and the prevention of premature birth.

Contraindications

Ventodisc is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to salbutamol, coronary heart disease, arterial hypertension, arrhythmias, heart failure, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, impaired renal function and in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Side effects

When using Ventodisc, the following side effects may occur: dizziness, headache, tachycardia (in mother and fetus during pregnancy), arrhythmia, hypotension, myocardial ischemia, heart failure, cardiomyopathy, pulmonary edema (possibly fatal), facial flushing, agitation, distal tremor, nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, loss of appetite, difficulty urinating, sweating, increased blood glucose, free fatty acids, hypokalemia and allergic reactions in the form of erythema, facial swelling, difficulty breathing and the development of physical and mental drug dependence.

Interaction with other drugs

Ventodisk increases the activity of central nervous system stimulants and cardiotropicity of thyroid hormones. Theophylline and ephedrine may increase toxic effects. Corticosteroids, prostaglandin synthesis inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants and monoamine oxidase blockers increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Inhalational anesthetics and levodopa can cause severe ventricular arrhythmias. Ventodisc reduces the effectiveness of beta blockers and may enhance the effect of adrenergic stimulants.

Dosage and method of administration

The dosage of Ventodisk and the method of its use should be selected individually depending on the severity of the disease and the age of the patient. It is usually recommended that adults and children over 12 years of age take 200-400 mcg (1-2 doses) 3-4 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years old are recommended to be prescribed 100-200 mcg (0.5-1 dose) 3-4 times a day. For children under 6 years of age, Ventodisk is recommended to be used only under medical supervision.

Ventodisc should only be used if necessary and under medical supervision. It is not recommended to exceed the recommended dose and duration of use of the drug without consulting a doctor.
