Vercef (international name Cefaclor) is an antibiotic belonging to the group of second-generation cephalosporins. Manufactured in India by Ranbaxy Laboratories.

Vertsef is available in several dosage forms: capsules of 250 mg, oral suspension of 125 mg and retard film-coated tablets of 375 mg. The active substance of the drug is cefaclor.

Indications for use

Vertsef is used to treat infectious diseases caused by sensitive pathogens. These include infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, skin, soft tissues, bones and joints, gonorrhea, acute otitis media, endometritis, as well as for the prevention of postoperative microbial complications.

Vertsef can increase the effectiveness of aminoglycosides, metronidazole, polymyxins and rifampicin, and weaken the effect of chloramphenicol and tetracyclines. Enhances the nephrotoxicity of butadione, aminoglycosides and polymyxins, and cholestyramine reduces absorption.

Symptoms of overdose may include abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, severe diarrhea with mucus or blood in the stool, and seizures. Overdose treatment is rarely life-threatening. If symptoms occur, tell your doctor or go to a poison center or emergency room.
