Vero-Mitomycin: antitumor antibiotic from Russia

Vero-Mitomycin is an antitumor antibiotic produced in Russia by Lance-Pharm. The active ingredient is mitomycin, which is used to treat various types of cancer, including cancer of the stomach, pancreas, vulva, cervix, endometrium, breast, mesothelioma, cancer of the esophagus, intestines (including colorectal), liver, lung, bladder, prostate, head and neck, chronic lympho- and myeloid leukemia.

Vero-Mitomycin is presented in the form of a lyophilized powder for the preparation of an injection solution of 0.02 g. The drug has the international name Mitomycin, and is also called Mitomycin-S, Mitomycin-S Kiova or Mutamycin.

Although Vero-Mitomycin is considered an effective antitumor agent, it has a number of contraindications and side effects. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to mitomycin, thrombocytopenia, coagulopathy, pregnancy and lactation. Restrictions on use include dysfunction of the bone marrow, liver, kidneys and infectious diseases.
