Corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption, and furosemide and other loop diuretics increase renal excretion of calcium, while thiazide diuretics delay its urinary excretion. In addition, the acidic reaction of foods increases the absorption of calcium, and the slightly alkaline reaction reduces it.
