Vocal cord False

false vocal cord (lat. l. vocale spurium) is a vowel-like sound that appears between consonants in some consonant combinations.

The false vocal cord is not a true vowel sound. It arises from the need to make difficult consonant combinations easier to pronounce.

Examples of vocal false cord:

  1. [th] between consonants in the words “blue”, “strawberry”

  2. [c] between consonants in the words “Muscovite”, “easy”

  3. [j] between consonants in the English words "new", "cure"

The vocal ligament is not a phoneme, since it does not have a meaningful function. It only makes it easier to articulate the word.
