Volkova Amniotic Arthroplasty

Volkov amniotic arthroplasty is a surgical operation to restore joints, developed by the Soviet traumatologist and orthopedic surgeon Mikhail Vasilyevich Volkov (born 1923).

The essence of the operation is to replace damaged joint cartilage with a graft from the amniotic membrane of the fetus. The amniotic membrane has a high regenerative potential and the ability to differentiate into cartilage tissue.

The surgical technique includes the following steps:

  1. Collection of the amniotic membrane from the fetus during cesarean section and its preservation.

  2. Removal of damaged cartilage in the joint.

  3. Modeling an amniotic membrane graft based on the shape of the articular surface.

  4. Implantation of the graft and its fixation.

Advantages of the method: no graft rejection, minimal risk of infectious complications, good restoration of joint mobility.

Volkov first used amniotic arthroplasty in 1962. Since then, the method has been widely used to treat arthrosis, injuries and articular cartilage defects. This operation can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with joint diseases.

Volkov Amniotic Arthroplasty Method

Volkov Amniotic Arthroplasty method is a surgical method that is used to treat various joint diseases, including arthritis, arthrosis and other diseases. The method is based on the use of the amniotic membrane, which is a natural barrier to the development of the embryo.

The amniotic membrane consists of proteins that protect the embryo from external influences and ensure its development. In addition, the amniotic membrane contains large amounts of hyaluronic acid, which has the ability to retain water and improve joint mobility.

The Volkow Amniotic Arthroplasty method involves placing an amniotic membrane on the surface of the joint, providing protection against infection and other damage. In addition, the hyaluronic acid contained in the membrane improves joint mobility and reduces pain.

Volkov Amniotic Arthroplasty method is used to treat many joint diseases such as arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It can also be used to treat other joint conditions associated with loss of mobility and pain.

In general, the Volkov Amniotic Arthroplasty method is an effective and safe method for treating joint diseases. It can help improve joint mobility and reduce pain, allowing patients to lead a more active lifestyle.
