Its treatment consists of changing the disordered nature of the head, strengthening it with the help of fragrant medicines with thinning and astringent properties and, finally, eliminating the causes that set the juices in motion. Often the active cause, combined with the passive cause for headaches from weakness of the head, is the accumulation of hot or non-hot bad juices in the stomach. They should be bred by means suitable for this purpose and given food that combines, along with the ability to generate praiseworthy blood, as well as dissolving power and the property of being easy to digest. If you cannot find food with both of the latter qualities, then give preference to the first of them. It is best to feed such patients after visiting the bathhouse. Their supper should be light, and they should conclude the meal with such things as dried dates and olives with bread, in order to strengthen the mouth of the stomach. Hippocrates allows such sick people to drink any wine at all, but Galen considers it best for the wine to be diluted or liquid, fragrant, or a mixture of both; Wine should be consumed with bread.
