Why is there no peeling after glycolic peeling?

It's no secret that regular daily facial skin care does not give the expected results. Dermatologists say that daily cleansing, moisturizing, nourishing, and toning can only keep the skin in good condition. But this is not enough to solve more serious problems.

Often this solution is a glycolic peel. This is one of the types of chemical peeling based on the effects of glycolic acid. At one time it was obtained from sugar cane. Today, glycolic acid is obtained by the synthesis of fruit acids, so glycolic also refers to a type of fruit peeling.

When glycolic acid acts on the surface layers of the skin, old cells die, which leads to the regeneration of new tissue and the reproduction of natural hyaluronic acid, the production of which slows down over time. Thanks to this process, skin rejuvenation occurs: increasing turgor, improving complexion and eliminating various defects.

Types of glycolic peeling

Depending on the concentration of the acid used, it happens:

Superficial glycolic peeling. Has a gentle effect on the stratum corneum of the skin, allowing:

  1. improve the relief, smooth out small wrinkles and unevenness
  2. improve complexion, get rid of freckles and dark spots
  3. remove acne and prevent the appearance of acne.

Medium glycolic peel. The deep effect practically affects living cells of the epidermis. Thanks to their regeneration:

  1. wrinkles, folds, creases are smoothed out
  2. minor scars and scars go away
  3. pigmentation is removed.

The procedure is carried out in a clinical setting, under supervision and in compliance with the doctor’s recommendations. The rehabilitation period is 10-15 days.

Deep glycolic peeling. The most aggressive type of procedure, the effect is deep down to the reticular layer of the dermis. This method is the most effective, it allows you to:

  1. remove even the deepest folds, wrinkles, sagging
  2. completely get rid of hyperpigmentation and scarring skin defects
  3. cure hyperkeratosis.

Deep chemical peeling is akin to a surgical procedure, therefore, as a rule, it is used to correct local areas of the face and body and is carried out in a hospital setting until complete rehabilitation. Anesthesia is used.

To carry out this or that type of peeling, a certain concentration of glycolic acid is used:

  1. superficial - from 5 - 10% to 15 - 30%
  2. median - from 35 to 50%
  3. deep chemical peeling – up to 70%

Moreover, the higher the concentration of glycolic acid, the deeper the penetration, the greater the damage to the skin. Therefore, to begin with, it is recommended to use small concentrations to identify the body’s reaction to the drug and adapt the skin to its effects.

Sometimes one procedure is enough to eliminate the problem, in other cases it is necessary to undergo 5-6 sessions or more, which are carried out at intervals of two weeks. To prolong the effect, one procedure per month is recommended. Repeat course - no earlier than six months.

Indications for glycolic peeling

This chemical peeling has a wide range of possibilities; its use is recommended in the following cases:

  1. peeling, dryness and sagging skin
  2. low turgor, the presence of various wrinkles, creases
  3. unhealthy complexion, including unnatural redness, including rosacea
  4. oily skin, post-acne,
  5. various scars, scars, stretch marks
  6. freckles, age spots, hyperpigmentation.

Glycolic peeling has no age restrictions. It should be carried out with special caution in case of rosacea. Often this type of peeling is a preparatory stage for plastic surgery or laser procedures.

Contraindications

The use of glycolic peeling is not recommended for:

  1. damage to the skin in the affected area (abrasions, burns, fresh scars)
  2. exacerbation of the inflammatory process, purulent manifestations, acne
  3. painful, dehydrated skin
  4. infectious diseases in the acute stage, including herpes
  5. fever, flu, ARVI
  6. the presence of malignant and benign formations on the face, including warts
  7. recent chemotherapy
  8. psoriasis and rosacea
  9. taking medications containing roaccutane
  10. pregnancy and lactation (skin is hypersensitive, which can lead to excessive pigmentation)
  11. individual intolerance to the drug (test required)
  12. freshly tanned skin.

To avoid increased pigmentation, it is not recommended to perform chemical glycolic peeling in spring and summer. The optimal period for the procedure is winter and autumn.

Preparation and execution

As such, there is no special preparation for glycolic peeling.

However, one to two weeks before the intended procedure, it is recommended to use a cream or tonic containing 3-5% acid. Any: glycolic, almond, lemon, retinoic, lactic or other. This product is applied at night and a light massage is performed. This will help adapt the skin and increase the effectiveness of the upcoming procedure.

It is also necessary to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun and visits to the solarium - two weeks before the session.

Like any procedure, glycolic peeling takes place in a certain sequence:

  1. Cleansing and preparing the skin surface for application of the composition.
  2. Treatment of the problem area with a glycol composition.
  3. Applying a special composition to the treated area to neutralize the acid
  4. Using a special soothing mask to eliminate further irritation.

The duration of the procedure, depending on the concentration of the glycol solution and the problem being solved, can vary from 15 to 30 minutes.

During the procedure, a slight tingling sensation turns into a burning sensation. In rare cases, with hypersensitive skin, severe redness and swelling may occur, which is why the procedure should be canceled, as this can lead to undesirable consequences.

Glycolic peeling at home

Superficial glycolic peeling can be done at home; all you need to do is select a 5-7% acid solution. If the concentration of the drug is more than 10-15% acid, it is necessary to dilute it by half with plain water.

Remember: You need to pour acid into water, but not vice versa.

In addition to the acid solution, you will need a neutralizer and a softening mask. A neutralizing agent can be bought or prepared from baking soda - one teaspoon per 200 ml of plain water. Cream or sour cream is suitable as a softening mask.

Home peeling is also performed in a certain sequence:

  1. First you need to cleanse your skin well. To do this, you can take lotion, toner or other cleanser, then wash your face and pat dry with a tissue.
  2. Using a soft brush or cotton swab, apply the glycolic solution to the T-shaped area of the face. First on the nose, chin and forehead area, then spread over the cheeks. Try to treat each area only once, but do not touch the eye area. After application, there may be a slight tingling sensation, then a burning sensation.
  3. The duration of exposure to the acidic drug depends on its concentration and the sensitivity of the skin. To begin with, the use of a 5-10% acid solution should not exceed 2-5 minutes, since the aggressive effects of acid can lead to severe skin irritation. The duration of subsequent applications can be increased to 10-15 minutes.
  4. Try to observe the skin's reaction. Noticeable redness and a burning sensation indicate the end of the procedure. Dip a cotton pad into the neutralizing agent and wipe the skin thoroughly. Strong hissing is a normal chemical reaction.
  5. At the end of the procedure, rinse your skin with water and apply a sour cream mask. If there is no visible redness, you can use a regular nourishing cream.

Skin care after glycolic peeling

As a rule, after the procedure, the facial skin peels off greatly. This reaction is quite natural for any type of peeling.

To minimize the side effect, it is recommended to use a softening tonic, soothing masks and nourishing hyaluronic cream.

It is not recommended to touch flaky skin with your hands, and do not try to get rid of it with scrubs. This can be fraught with severe redness, the formation of wounds, scars and even age spots.

Proper care allows flaky skin to go away on its own within 7-8 days, in some cases a little longer.

It is not recommended to use decorative cosmetics or visit a sauna or bathhouse for several days after the procedure.

Avoid visiting the solarium. During periods of solar activity, you should use sunscreen with SPF-30.

In winter, decorative cosmetics with sunscreen, foundation or powder are sufficient.

The result after the procedure will not take long to arrive. Significant skin rejuvenation is observed, fine wrinkles, unevenness, minor scars, and pigmentation disappear. The skin of the face becomes soft, clean, smooth.

The use of high-quality products and strict adherence to the recommendations of cosmetologists can restore beauty and youth to your face.

Other fruit peels have a similar effect: milk, almond, retinoic and others.

Girls, tell me. I have already done 2 peelings (with fruit acids) but there is no result at all. On some sites they write that the skin should peel, but mine is not even flaky, but normal, as always. A little red after peeling, but it goes away in literally half an hour. There are no better results at all (I have acne, but what’s even worse is that there are traces left after them) Tell me, can this be so or is it still not a high-quality cosmetologist’s work?

A friend did it. The first day the red face was like a burn, it peeled off within a week, everything went away completely and became normal after 2 weeks. So I don’t know if they did it wrong for you or if she did it too far.

how much time has passed?

According to the protocol, the concentration is increased gradually, after the first you should not peel off. Nothing really flakes off for me during the entire course, even after 70% acid. The skin will renew itself gradually, and not like after a sunburn. It climbs a lot after yellow peeling, and not for everyone.

The pharmacy makes me a special mask. Here the skin comes off in layers, without any burns or pimples. And after peeling from a cosmetologist, my skin didn’t peel off either, but pimples popped up in huge numbers. God bless the dermatologist, I contacted him on time and they drew up a plan for me with what and how to smear myself. Acne cured. If you want, I can do the peeling myself, a mask at night (so they said) and after 2 days all the skin begins to peel off, peeling off in about 5-7 days.

Maybe fruit acids are simply not suitable for you, they are very soft and oily, for example, they “don’t take care of” your skin. Try other medications. I apply retinoic ointment, it peels off, not too much, I go outside.

I’ve been doing my own peeling at home for a long time now) with the help of peeling rolls with chamomile (Libriderm), I really like it) it really removes all the excess really well, the face is very smooth and clean and the complexion has a beautiful healthy tone)

I came here by accident because... I'm researching the same questions on the Internet.
What does your cosmetologist say to this?
I am on the 4th day after the peeling day, peeling has begun, but everything is happening slowly and inactively, I don’t know when it will all end, it was promised that it will be three days, but here for a week, I feel, no less, if not longer - I am forced to sit at home .

How come they don't take it? They take both store-bought peelings from me and from a cosmetologist in such a way that then for a week I peel off like a snake)) I read reviews here about the store-bought Perfect peelings, they say there is no effect. Rave! Leave it on for as long as necessary and apply a normal layer - after 2 days the skin will begin to peel off. And if a thin layer lasts for 5 minutes, it’s clear that there is no effect

:)

Why does facial skin peel after peeling?

“It is important to understand: exfoliation of the skin (not to be confused with peeling) is the essence of the peeling procedure. The composition applied to the skin affects the connections between the cells of the stratum corneum of the epidermis. After some time, they peel off, which leads to accelerated division and renewal of cells in deeper layers. But sometimes the skin literally peels off in flakes, and sometimes it doesn’t.”

Several factors influence whether your skin will peel.

Intensity of the procedure

Superficial peeling removes dead cells of the stratum corneum and, depending on the concentration of the substance in the composition and the pH level, can cause intense peeling. Medium and deep peeling, affecting the deep layers of the epidermis, Always accompanied by peeling, redness, swelling.

Active substance

Alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic, apple, milk, pyruvic, are among the most gentle.

Trichloroacetic acid, which is most often used for medium peels, acts quite aggressively.

Enzyme peeling (active ingredients - bromelain, papain) rarely causes visible peeling.

Enzyme, or enzyme, peeling is the least likely to injure the skin, but does not provide such a powerful renewal effect as acid peeling.

Individual skin characteristics

Sensitive, reactive, very dry skin can respond with peeling to even the most gentle composition.

Proper preparation

Well-moisturized skin, rich in nutrients, comes to its senses faster. So start preparing for your peeling session early.

Post-peeling care

mild cleanser;

alcohol-free tonic with a calming effect;

maximum sun protection.

Typical and atypical consequences of peeling

These phenomena after peeling should not be a cause for panic:

redness (erythema) of the skin; occurs in the first minutes after the procedure; with superficial peeling it lasts 1–2 days, with medium peeling it lasts up to 5 days;

edema (starts 2–3 days after the procedure); lasts 2–3 days;

peeling (starts on days 2–3); with superficial peeling it lasts 2–3 days, with medium peeling it lasts up to 5–10 days.

Here is a list of atypical manifestations of peeling:

rashes in the form of acne - as a rule, are the result of improper care;

crusts and scars - formed when scales are torn off;

In all these cases, you must consult a doctor!

Sometimes after peeling, a thick crust forms on the skin that does not want to peel off. A cosmetologist also has special methods for this case.

How to remove peeling after peeling

Cleanse your skin properly. The ideal option is gentle cleansing, after which you can use drying lotions and tonics. Put gommages and scrubs aside.

Use intensive moisturizing and regenerating products with vitamins and antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, urea, vitamins E and B3.

For severe itching and flaking, soothing and healing products based on panthenol and bisabolol will help. They are used for at least 3 days after the procedure.

If the peeling is alarmingly severe, consult a doctor. It will help remove flakes, reduce irritation and redness. Typically, in this case, enzymatic peeling based on whey is used. Plus, suitable cosmetic preparations are prescribed to speed up skin restoration.

In some situations, they even perform additional peeling with enzymes or lactic acid to facilitate the exfoliation process. © Getty Images

Under no circumstances should you:

peel off the scales - they must fall off on their own, otherwise scars may appear;

touching your face frequently, especially with dirty hands, can cause an infection;

apply decorative cosmetics to irritated skin;

go out in the sun without a strong sunscreen with SPF 50+;

visit a bathhouse or solarium;

contact with chlorinated hard water (in a swimming pool).
