These are all the medicines that we mention in the paragraph on fox disease, and all the methods of use are rubbing the scalp, irritating it, using fats and using special medicines for fox disease, which are strongly attractive and at the same time dissolving; they help with baldness and promote the growth of hair in the eyebrows and beards when they fall out. For example, willow root bark with olive oil strengthens the hair and has a wonderful effect in preserving it and at the same time darkening it.
As for the medicines that we are going to mention here, although they are also useful for fox disease, then, if we take into account what we said at the end of the paragraph about preserving hair, they are:
Copy. Take fresh Spanish flies with their legs and heads torn off, dried in the shade, and rub them in violet oil or boil them in it or in olive oil until they swell. Then they smear them wherever they want, and this place swells and hair grows on it.
Balazura honey also works if you put it on the place where the hair is falling out, or rub it in egg oil and smear it several times where the person desires, and the hair grows.
Another remedy. Take burnt donkey hooves or burnt horns and smear them with vinegar oil, this is a strong medicine. As for ant eggs with balsam oil, this is one of the remedies that are considered to grow hair, but according to most people, it prevents hair growth.
We also tried a lizard that is found in houses; it is killed, dried, ground and spread with butter. They also tested grated Egyptian glass with jasmine oil.
One of the easier remedies is to take a pestle and a tablet of tin, put between them some hair oil or fat of the kind already mentioned, rub until the strength of the tin is transferred into the oil, and make a mudcake of it, and apply to the sore spot apply a medicinal bandage of fig leaves, well boiled and having some strength.
They also take the kernels of twenty hazelnuts, fry them until they can be crushed, and bind them with radish oil. Or they take the herb called hargush, the genital organ of a donkey and its spleen roasted - half a ritla each, and incense - twenty parts by weight, mix it all, having first dissolved the incense in wine, and consume it.
They also take, as Philagry says, salted ox fat - ninety-six dirhams, ushnana, tapsia - eighteen dirhams each, myrrh - eight dirhams, frankincense - the same amount, aviantum - forty-eight dirhams, a donkey's penis - forty-eight dirhams, donkey's spleen - forty-six dirhams, the penis and spleen of a donkey are fried and crushed, the whole composition is bound with black wine, the head is shaved, anointed with this and the ointment is left for five days. Then the head is washed and the patient is allowed to rest for two days, after which the treatment is repeated. If the head is ulcerated, the sore spot is treated with goose fat.
The Karituna medicine is taken from the stomachs of six hares, thoroughly dried and burned in a baked clay cauldron coated with clay. Buckthorn leaves, the same number of myrtle leaves and nine maidenhair leaves are thrown into the cauldron and the composition is burned again in a glass vessel, after which it is ground, mixed with three rittles of bear fat and with the same amount of radish oil and removed. This medicine is consumed if necessary in some fragrant oil.
Laurel drupes, pepper oil and castor oil all help promote hair growth. Or take yarrow ash and mix it with old olive oil, it makes a slow-growing beard grow, just like nigella ash with water, which is especially useful for eyebrows. Another remedy for eyebrows is to burn a couple of nuts, but only enough so that they can be ground, add a misqal of date seeds, also not burnt particularly hard, and fifteen peppercorns and smear this with rose oil.
Or they take the ash of yarrow, burnt hazelnuts, Spanish flies and kachim and boil with bana oil in a ladle until the composition turns black. It is mixed with galium, then the sore spot is rubbed and lubricated with this composition. Adiantum, myrtle berries and celery seeds are also lightly burned until blackened and bound with bear lard or radish oil.
A medicine that grows eyebrow hair. They take incense - four dirachmi, crocodile feces, sea urchin feces, mountain rue - one dirachmi each, grind with astringent wine, mix with bear fat and consume.
Another remedy for old, severe cases of eyebrow loss and for fox disease or other similar diseases. Take citvar wormwood - one part, sea foam - eight parts, furbiyun, laurel drupes - three parts each, fresh zift - four, dissolve the zift in iris oil, dissolve furbiyun in it and then mix other medicines with it.
Another similar medicine. Take burnt reed roots - seven parts, frog ash - five, indau seeds - four, asphodel roots - three, grind with laurel oil and consume.
