Finding yourself in a hotel without air conditioning, losing a suitcase with things and running into unpleasant fellow travelers is not the worst thing a tourist can expect while traveling. Here are the 10 most common and dangerous diseases that await travelers:

  1. Malaria. Malaria is an infectious disease transmitted by malaria mosquitoes. The first symptoms are severe headaches, fever, joint pain, then an enlarged spleen and liver and anemia are diagnosed. May cause death. You can catch it in tropical countries.

  2. Yellow fever. A viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Causes fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, bleeding. Mortality up to 50%. Distributed in Africa and South America.

  3. Cholera. Acute intestinal infection, causing severe diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. Transmitted through water and food. Found in Asia, Africa, and South America.

  4. Typhoid fever. Acute infectious disease with fever, diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain. Transmitted through water and food. Common in developing countries.

  5. Hepatitis A. Viral liver damage, jaundice, weakness, nausea. Transmitted by the fecal-oral route. It is found everywhere, especially in countries with poor sanitation.

  6. Rabies. A fatal viral disease that affects the nervous system. Transmitted through animal bites. Distributed in Asia, Africa, South America.

  7. Dengue fever. An infectious disease that causes high fever, rash, and joint pain. Carried by mosquitoes. Found in tropical regions.

  8. Meningococcal infection. Causes inflammation of the membranes of the brain, fever, and convulsions. Transmitted by airborne droplets. Distributed in the countries of the “meningitis belt” in Africa.

  9. Ebola fever. A dangerous viral disease with a fatal outcome. Signs: fever, vomiting, diarrhea, bleeding. Distributed in Central and Western Africa.

  10. Malaria. Dangerous parasitic disease. Symptoms: high fever, chills, headache. Transmitted through mosquito bites. Distributed in tropical regions.
