Various species of plants of the genus Gossypium from the mallow family (Malvaceae). Pharmacy name: cotton root bark - Gossypii cortex radicis (formerly: Cortex Gossypii radicis).

Botanical description. Shrub with yellow flowers. Many varieties are cultivated in tropical and subtropical countries (mainly for cotton production).

Active ingredient: red and yellow resinous substance (gossypol).

Application. It is especially often used in homeopathy to reduce negative effects in women during menopause and irregular menstruation.

Herbal preparations are prepared from the bark of the cotton plant root, which act similarly to ergot medicines.
