Absence Retropulsive

Retropulsive absence is a type of epileptic seizure (absence), characterized by hypertensive convulsions with arching of the body backwards.

With retropulsive absence seizure, there is a sudden loss of consciousness, accompanied by muscle tension and a sharp throwing back of the head and torso. At the same time, the arms are extended at the elbows, the legs are extended at the knees. The duration of the attack usually ranges from 5 to 20 seconds.

These attacks most often occur in children and adolescents with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. They can be repeated many times during the day, significantly disrupting normal functioning. Treatment includes antiepileptic drugs.
