Acenterine: an anti-inflammatory agent based on acetylsalicylic acid

Acenterine is an anti-inflammatory agent, a derivative of salicylic acid, which is widely used in medicine to treat various conditions associated with pain and inflammation. Acenterine was originally developed and manufactured by the Belgian pharmaceutical company Hafslund Nycomed Pharma.

Acenterine contains an active substance - acetylsalicylic acid, which exhibits anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic effects. Acetylsalicylic acid blocks the production of prostaglandins - substances that are involved in the inflammatory process and cause pain and fever.

Acenterine is available in the form of film-coated tablets that dissolve in the intestines. The dosage of tablets is 500 mg.

Indications for use of Acenterin include:

  1. rheumatism and rheumatoid arthritis;

  2. infectious-allergic myocarditis;

  3. fever in infectious and inflammatory diseases;

  4. pain syndrome of various etiologies, including headache, migraine, toothache, neuralgia, myalgia, arthralgia, algodismenorrhea;

  5. thrombosis and thromboembolism (prevention);

  6. myocardial infarction (secondary prevention);

  7. cardiac ischemia;

  8. unstable angina;

  9. cardiac arrhythmias and other conditions.

However, acenterine also has contraindications for use. Thus, it is not recommended for use in cases of hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid, erosive and ulcerative lesions of the gastrointestinal tract in the acute phase, gastrointestinal bleeding, “aspirin” asthma, bleeding disorders, vitamin K deficiency, severe renal failure, the first trimester of pregnancy and lactation. Acenterin is also prescribed with caution to patients with gout, liver diseases, and children under 12 years of age with hyperthermia due to viral diseases.

When using Acenterin, side effects may occur, including nausea, anorexia, gastralgia, diarrhea, erosive and ulcerative lesions and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, allergic reactions (skin rash, bronchospasm), renal and/or liver failure, thrombocytopenic reactions, etc.
