Acromegaly Partial

* Acromegaly (gr. akros - “highest” + melaina “black; dark; gloomy”) is a disease characterized by excessively high levels of growth hormone, which is secreted by the pituitary gland. As a result, the normal growth and development of the bones of the skull, face and other parts of the body is disrupted, and the size of the internal organs increases. Due to pathological changes in metabolism, many related health problems arise, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, neurological disorders and much more. Diagnosis of acromegaly is based on the study of X-ray data, MRI examination of the skull and hormonal status. Treatment involves taking medications. The life expectancy of people with this diagnosis depends on the cause of acromegaly and the presence of related complications.
