A destructive adenoma is a tumor arising from adrenal tissue. The disease is rare, but still common, since many cases of destruction have been described in the history of medicine. Among all tumors of the adrenal gland, adenoma accounts for about a quarter of all cases. Most often it affects people aged 30 to 50 years. There are also cases of adenomas occurring in children and adolescents. Pathology is more common among women than among men.
The source of tumor formation is the cells of the adrenal cortex, as a result of mutation of which a change in the molecular structure of the chorismatic (porphyrinogenic) system occurs, followed by the formation of a connective tissue capsule around the primary cell, which intensively proliferates and develops. That is, the process of inflammation of blood vessels is underway. If the tumor is not treated, it can progress rapidly. Adenoma has an average size of three to ten centimeters in diameter.
