Alfogel: application, side effects and features

Alfogel is a drug used to treat diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. It belongs to the group of astringent, coating and antacid agents based on aluminum. The drug is produced in Yugoslavia by the company ICN Galenika, and its international name is aluminum phosphate.

Alfogel is an effective treatment for gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, reflux esophagitis, non-ulcer dyspepsia syndrome, diaphragmatic hernia, functional diseases of the large intestine, colopathies, enterocolitis, sigmoiditis, proctitis, diverticulitis, diarrhea after gastrectomy, poisoning and drug-induced gastrointestinal lesions .

However, there are contraindications to the use of Alfogel. Thus, it should be avoided in cases of severe renal failure, as well as in cases of impaired renal function, pregnancy and lactation. In addition, older adults and those who lead a sedentary lifestyle may experience constipation.

There are also restrictions on the use of Alfogel in case of an unspecified diagnosis. Long-term treatment without consulting a doctor is not recommended.

It is important to consider the interaction of Alfogel with other drugs. For example, it may reduce the absorption of furosemide, tetracyclines, digoxin, isoniazid, indomethacin and ranitidine. Therefore, when taken together, an interval of at least 1-2 hours is recommended.

In case of an overdose of Alfogel, a decrease in intestinal motility may occur. In such cases, the prescription of laxatives is required.

Thus, Alfogel is an effective remedy for the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, but its use should be carried out under the supervision of a doctor. It is necessary to take into account contraindications, restrictions on use, possible side effects and interactions with other drugs.
