Aminazine (Chlorpromazine, Largactil, Plego-Mazin and Other Phenothiazine Derivatives)

Aminazine (Chlorpromazine, Largactil, Plego-Mazin and other phenothiazine derivatives)

Aminazine is a psychotropic drug that is widely used in psychiatry to treat schizophrenia, bipolar affective disorder, aggression, anxiety and depression. It belongs to the group of phenothiazines and has selective psychotropic (sedative) and neurotoxic (hypotensive) effects.

Despite its widespread use, aminazine can cause serious side effects. It can cause severe weakness, dizziness, dry mouth and nausea. In some cases, convulsions and loss of consciousness may occur. In addition, when using aminazine, a shallow coma with increased tendon reflexes and constricted pupils may occur. When recovering from a coma, parkinsonian phenomena may occur, such as trembling and convulsive contraction of certain muscle groups of the neck and face.

When chewing chlorpromazine tablets, hyperemia and swelling of the oral mucosa occurs, and in children, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa may occur. In addition, an allergic skin reaction is possible. The lethal dose of chlorpromazine is from 5 to 10 g.

In case of an overdose of aminazine, you should immediately seek medical help. Treatment may include gastric lavage through a tube and the use of a saline laxative. Forced diuresis without plasma alkalization can be used. For hypotension, caffeine and mesaton can be used. For parkinsonism, valproic acid and imizin (melipramine) can be used orally.

Despite the potential side effects, chlorpromazine is an effective drug for treating mental disorders. However, its use should only be under the supervision and guidance of an experienced physician, who will monitor the patient and adjust the dose to achieve maximum effectiveness and minimal risk of side effects.
