Aponeurosis Plantar

Plantar aponeurosis (a. plantaris, pna, bna, jna) is a dense fibrous plate located in the plantar region of the foot. The plantar aponeurosis is a continuation of the tendons of the muscles of the leg and tarsus. It is attached to the tubercles of the calcaneus and the main phalanges of the toes.

The plantar aponeurosis performs supporting and shock-absorbing functions. It distributes the pressure of walking and running over a larger area of the sole. The plantar aponeurosis is also involved in adduction and flexion of the toes. Damage to the aponeurosis can lead to flat feet and other foot deformities.
