Ararich - Spanish male

Nature.
Some say they are overly hot, while others say they are hot and dry to the third degree. The first opinion is more correct.

Actions and properties.
Sharp, caustic, rotting, burning.

Cosmetics.
In the form of an ointment, they reduce warts. A wax ointment is prepared from them and the white spots on the nails are smeared with it, and this helps. If you make a medicinal bandage out of them, they flatten nails that need to be trimmed quickly. In the form of an ointment with vinegar they reduce bahak and baras; if they are rubbed in pounded form with mustard, they promote hair growth. Spanish flies have the same effect if you cook them in olive oil until it thickens.

Tumors and acne.
They are used to lubricate cancerous tumors and they dissolve them.

Wounds and ulcers.
It is a useful ointment for jaraba and ringworm.

Organs of the eye.
Ibn Masawayh says: “They reduce the pterygoid membrane well.”

Nutritional organs.
They are useful for dropsy.

Eruption organs.
Spanish flies, in small numbers, strongly drive urine. A slight admixture of them without harm promotes the action of diuretics. They increase the flow of menstruation and cause miscarriage. Some say that one fly is given to drink to someone who complains about the bladder, and if the usual measures of treatment do not benefit him. Three tassujas of Spanish flies cause ulcers in the bladder. Galen says: “They ulcerate the bladder due to their special property, for bad pungent juices flow there, from which our body cannot be free.”

Essence.
These are animals similar to bedbugs, but only red. Those of them that are found in wheat and that are born in it are the sharpest and are suitable for storage, but they must be kept in an earthen vessel, tying the neck with a clean linen rag. The vessel is turned over so that its hole is above the steam rising from another vessel with strong boiling wine vinegar, and they continue to hold it above the steam until the Spanish flies die. Then they are hung on a linen thread and stored.

Choice.
The most effective are variegated Spanish flies with yellow stripes on their wings, similar in size to woodlice. But monochromatic ones, not variegated ones, have a weak effect.”

Poisons.
Some people claim that the wings and legs of Spanish flies, when drunk after poisoning, counteract the poisons. They say that whoever drinks one bowl of Spanish flies will have his body swell, his urine will turn to blood, and he will die that same day.
