Areolith

Areolites are specific skin formations located directly under the areola of the female breast nipple. Another name for the areola is the nipple circle. The areolite is located deepest on the surface of the chest, a few millimeters, so that it almost never comes into contact with the skin. With the help of the areola, the female breast stands out and significantly increases the erogenous sensitivity of the nipple.

Areolitis is a disease of the areola of the mammary glands, which is characterized by inflammation of this organ. This usually occurs as a result of infection or mechanical damage. If you notice any discomfort or pain in the area of the areola, you should immediately consult a doctor to prevent complications associated with this disease. The acute form of areolitis can lead to suppuration, necrosis, scarring and distortion. Treatment begins with the use of antibiotics. In cases of severe illness, surgery may be required.

If the process is chronic, then antibiotic therapy and limiting breast contact are used to avoid irritation. When prescribing any type of treatment, it is necessary to ensure that the cause of the disease has been correctly identified in order to exclude relapse.

An examination by a gynecologist and mammologist is important. This consultation can identify any changes that could cause inflammation of the areola of the breast, as well as risk factors for areolitis and possible causes. A professional medical examination should be performed at every visit, even in the absence of complaints. This will allow timely detection of the occurrence of foci of inflammation in the form of redness, swelling, and thickening of the skin. As a rule, the doctor uses an ultrasound device during a medical examination.
