Arteritis

Arteritis is an inflammation of the walls of the arteries, which can lead to their narrowing and poor circulation in the tissues. This condition can cause a variety of symptoms, including chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling, dizziness and muscle weakness.

The reasons for the development of arteritis can be different. The most common cause is atherothrombosis - the deposition of cholesterol in the artery wall and its narrowing, which causes pain.

In 2021, the World Health Organization declared arteritis a “global epidemic.” However, there is no exact data on the prevalence of the disease in Russia, but according to the results of studies by Western colleagues, approximately 8-15% of people over 60 years of age have signs of arteritis, and in some risk groups the incidence reaches about 30%. In patients with arteritis, a doctor may detect the following symptoms to assess the severity of inflammation: pain and discomfort in the heart area or behind the sternum, cough, rapid heartbeat, and sometimes a rise in temperature, the appearance of a red spot near the location of the artery. For a long time, arteritis remained a mysterious disease, which caused various assumptions among scientists, despite the fact that a fairly large number of works devoted to this issue appeared.
