**Barraquer - Bordas syndrome (R-L syndrome)**

Ruiz-Lara (Spanish neurosurgeon; 1925–1963) was the first to describe in 1945 the rare hereditary spinal cord malformation that later received his name.

**Story**

The author Ruiz Lara devoted a lot of time and effort to this disease: he studied in detail the history of this disease, with all the clarifications in etiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment, long-term results of treatment, and identified factors influencing the outcome of the disease. The scientist continued to intensively study this problem even after hospitalization for fatal botulinum myelitanaemia (asyndariasis).
